This Year's Model Updates:

The Grand Cherokee is all new for 2005. Among the improvements are new four-wheel-drive systems, an independent front suspension, three excellent engine options and better ergonomics and build quality.

Pros:
  • Strong engine lineup, unmatched off-road ability, balanced handling, long list of advanced safety equipment, solid warranty.
Cons:
  • Hard plastic interior surfaces could use some padding, less cargo capacity than most midsize SUVs.

  • Seats! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The seats are not comfortable. Water stains the seats, raindrops, sweat, anything. I have had nothing but trouble with this vehicle. It has been in the shop several times for the transmission. I wish I havent bought this vehicle.

After 5 months of ownership here are my thoughts. Youll love this vehicle if you live near the dealership, because you will likely be visiting them often. Ive had AC problems, lots of them. AC gets stuck blowing heat if you turn the selection knob too fast. I actually had cold air blowing out one side and heat out the other. Gas mileage is terrible with this thing, TERRIBLE. The transmission shift is also horrid; you have to wait for it to catch up when shifting from reverse to drive. Good thing it has manual override, its about the only way to get the performance up to par. Other than these problems its a good vehicle and fun to drive.

  • Thi CAR SUCKS! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This car is a pile of Sh**! I have had so much electrical problems on this car that i dont even know what to do anymore. Spent so much $ at the STEALERSHIP and still has problems. The dealership loves it when you bring your car in. All they do is plug in the scanning device, read the error code, and tell you how much its gonna cost to replace the part. The error code might not even be the main problem. Ive seen it when error codes start changing after you replace the part that it told you to. Then your down $2-3000s and the problems not even fixed. There could be some kind of computer error and its just punching out random codes. JEEP SUCKS and STEALERSHIP SUCKS! DO NOT BUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a bought a brand new 96 and had no problems with it, so i decided to upgrade bought this Jeep after bringing it home water pump started going out took it back then after that air bag light kept going off and now I keep having dry starts, The inline 6 motor they had was great, thats why they changed them into regular motors so that they would break down easier, never again will I buy a jeep.

  • Gaz guzzler and expensive service - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

Leased vehicle since May 2005. This is the V8 4.7 engine. This vehicle is a gaz guzzler! Only 14 MPG in mixed use and often 12 MPG only. Water is infiltrating in the car from the right A pillar and despite two visits to the dealership, its always the same. Now the navigation system is beeping all the time. The dealer says we have to upgrade for a new CD which costs $250! We cannot listen anymore to the radio or any CD because of the beeps! So why itmandatory to get a new navigations CD? We do not care about one or two new roads.. This is an unfair practice.

  • Bad Transmissions - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Purchased this Jeep for Ohio Winters and comfort. Purchased with 53K miles. After one year of driving at 69K miles tranny was shot. Noticed vehicle slightly surging on inclines (was tranny slipping). Very upset with 12 pymts rebuild tranny cost $3K. Towed it back to dealer and traded on a 2010 Jeep Patriot. Do not buy this car! Hope our luck changes for the better at a healthy cost.

  • my last Jeep - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Dangerous blind spots; front windshield too low -- hard to see traffic lights; back window too small; interior too tight -- bump head ( I am not very tall); serious blind spots; seats hard and uncomfortable. This is not a reflection on the dealership. I would buy another car from them without hesitation.

  • What a piece of crap! - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

This is my first JGC and I expected much more from a reputable brand like Jeep. First problem: water leaking inside cockpit thru the windshield (4 days at dealer - 1,500 miles). Then came a recall from factory for some major fault in a transmission seal (1 day in service - 10,000 mi). Third big disappointment:car wont start - fuel pump sudden death fuel pump with short circuit in pump cabling! (3 days at shop - 13,000 mi). Fourth and counting...:computer/start key system malfunction, car wont run (3 days at service - 22,000 mi). Latest problem: car wont start - stalled at mall inside garage, towed to dealer yesterday.... Dont know what the problem is (aaaarrg!) just 2 more months for lease end!

  • Beware the Grand Cherokee Laredo Lemon - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

The engine has what appears to be a misfiring problem. Turns out that its the air compressor not working properly, which puts an intermittent load on the engine, causing it to appear to misfire. According to two different dealerships, Jeep is aware of the problem, and has been for a very long time, but has yet to fix it. In addition, the air conditioner vent control is faulty, causing the air to come out of the heater and defroster for the first 30 seconds or so as the vent control recalibrate ... not a big deal, but just annoying. Neither dealership was able to resolve this problem either. One suggested that the two problems are related. This is definitely my last Jeep purchase, ever!

  • It is the the Jeep you remembered - 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The new Jeep 2005 style and ride has improved over the older style, however, its performance and reliability needs lots of help. The downshifting is very hard and noticeable. The vehicles shift module needed to be replaced at 16K miles. The blinker mechanism also broke. The brakes chatter. The gas gauge did not work after one week. The transmission leaked and it was recalled already. The dealership service is also terrible. I hope all the troubles are behind or this vehicle will be traded soon.
